![]() ![]() The First Mezuzah
The first mention of the word Mezuza in the Torah is with
regard to the Passover offering. On that incredible night of
faith, the Egyptian firstborn priests were to celebrate their
pagan holiday by offering the first born of the Jews to their
lamb deity.
In a most incredible act of faith, at the risk of being annihilated by the congregating crowds arriving to the festival, the entire Jewish populace in-masse took upon themselves the divine directive of publicly slaughtering and roasting the Egyptian deity over fire. That first Passover night, the Almighty executed divine justice. Measure for measure, instead of the Jewish firstborn, the Egyptian first born were smitten. The Jewish homes were festive and jubilant. That same night, the Jewish nation was miraculously delivered to serve the Holy One.
