Binding Tefillin on the hand

From the age of thirteen, Jewish males are commanded to put on Tefillin every weekday, expressing their dedication and love for Hashem. Tefillin are square leather boxes containing parchments upon which portions of the Torah are hand-written by a scribe. They are worn on the upper arm facing the heart. This shows that our feelings should be bound to Hashem, just as the tefillin are bound onto us.

Placing Tefillin on the head

Besides the tefillin on the hand the Torah commands men to place tefillin on their heads. They are worn on the head centered above the hairline showing that all of our thoughts should be directed to Hashem.
